A Montana Artitst
“I began capturing images of my world in the middle sixties, while overseas in the Navy – it was only a hobby then, bit I was intrigued by the microcosms that link us, those that we all share but so seldom see…The camera, then, has become a tool to explore these biological and social systems, and a way to present them to other people. My photographs do not stand as the latest attempt to produce “great art”, but as a way to show others what I see and marvel at every day. My hope is that you will enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoy photographing them.”

John H. Havener, Jr. was born in Hobbs, NM in July of 1944 and has lived in many parts of the country since. He moved to Montana in 1952 and finally settled in Billings in 1960. After a tour in the US Navy, he attended Eastern Montana
College (now MSU-B) for four years, majoring in music education. Working many different jobs and sampling what life has to offer, he has finished a rewarding career with the US Postal Service, retiring in March of 2001 after working as a letter carrier.
His hobbies and interests include music (principal tubist with the Billings Symphony since 1968 and performing as a vocal soloist in many of the area churches), computers and cooking. He opened his business Picture This! Photography studio in 2000 and has photographed many area weddings and provided portrait and free-lance work all over the Billings area.
John’s photography is available in many formats, from photo greeting cards to large, framed or unframed work to hang in your home.
